General Questions

It's completely normal to feel a bit nervous before your first appointment. Many people are unsure about what will happen and what kind of questions might be asked. The first session is mainly focused on understanding what brings you to therapy, the challenges you're currently facing, and any previous difficulties you may have experienced. Together, you and the psychologist can begin to outline a plan for support.

This initial meeting is also a chance for you to see if the psychologist is a good fit for your needs and if you feel at ease working with them.

Sessions typically last for about 50 minutes. In your first meeting, you’ll discuss how often to attend and what goals you’d like to work toward in therapy. The number and frequency of sessions can vary depending on individual needs.

In some cases, longer sessions—up to 90 minutes—may be recommended, especially for certain therapeutic approaches. Your therapist will discuss this with you if it's relevant to your care.

Fees can vary based on the therapist you choose and the time of your appointment, such as during standard hours or after hours. It's a good idea to check your therapist's profile for specific fee details.

Session costs are generally set below the national recommended rate for psychological services. Additional services, such as professional supervision, may have separate pricing.

Consultations are available from Monday to Saturday during regular business hours, with limited after-hours appointments offered on weekdays. Each therapist has their own schedule, so availability may vary.

Sessions can be attended either in person or through telehealth, depending on your preference and needs.

Can Family Members or Friends See the Same Therapist?

It's generally recommended that family members or friends see different therapists. This helps maintain clear boundaries and supports ethical practice. Exceptions may apply in settings like couples or family-based therapy.

Yes, it's possible to have your notes transferred from a previous therapist. This usually involves signing a release form to allow the sharing of information. While written summaries may be provided, it's common for therapists to arrange a verbal handover for a more thorough exchange.

Psychologists are generally not available for support outside of scheduled sessions, as they are often attending to other consumers. It's best to discuss any concerns during your appointment.

If you need to be seen sooner, you can request to be added to your therapist’s cancellation list for an earlier opening.

Crisis support is not provided. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent assistance, it is important to contact emergency or dedicated crisis support services in your area.

Payment Questions

Payment is processed at the end of each session. Cash is not accepted; instead, the fee is charged to your nominated account, which you provide when completing your intake forms.

We understand that cancellations may be necessary at times. However, we have a 48-hour cancellation policy (in business days). Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice will incur a 50% session fee, and cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice will incur a full 100% session fee.

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact our office as soon as possible via phone or email.
